 Mavericks Basketball 5/12/09

By: Taylor Marlar

Dirk Nowitzki scored 19 of his 44 points in the fourth quarter, including a high-arching shot with 1:05 left that put the Dallas Mavericks ahead for good on their way to a 119-117 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Monday night, extending this second-round series. Carmelo Anthony scored a career playoff-best 41 points and hit a 3-pointer with 3.1 seconds left from nearly the exact spot as his winning basket in the previous game, only this time it left Denver a point shy of a tie. Dallas' Jason Terry made a free throw with 1.1 seconds left, then missed another intentionally so the Nuggets couldn't even get off a shot off.

Texas Rangers

by: Jackie LaQuey

Picture
The Texas Rangers have always been a team that starts out strong at the beginning of the season and then end up doing pretty bad by the end. Because of their 7-1 win yesterday against the Mariners the Rangers are now in 1st place. Even know they have started out good this season just like all the rest I have a feeling they will end up continuing to succeed and maybe even make it to the playoffs.

Congradulations Tennis!

By: Makenzi Davis 5/12/09

Congratulations goes to Katie Mitchell and Vibi Patel for winning the Regional Championship in Girls Doubles. They defeated Princeton, Van Alstyne, Wills Point, and Argyle to win in the finals. It was a great victory for these girls as they were seeded #4 in the tournament. After winning the first 2 rounds, they had to play the #1 seed from Wills Point. Wills Point had beat them earlier in the year in the Cedar Hill Tournament. Vibi and Katie won 7-5,6-4. They played Argyle in the finals and won 7-5,6-3. Congratulations also to Tyson Perry and Josh Scales on their 2nd place finish in Boys Doubles. Josh and Tyson easily won their first match, and after winning against Van they played District opponents, Alvarado, in the finals. Although they played very well, they lost in a tie-breaker in the second set. Now they had to play Lovejoy in the playback match. The winner of this match would go to State, the loser would not. Kaufman won easily 6-3,6-2. Both boys played great but Tyson Perry stepped his game up 100%. Other Kaufman players that competed were Megan England and Kailey Lampkin, who finished 4th in the tournament. Brittany Stevens and Josh Walters won their first match before falling to the 2nd place finisher from Van, in the second round.

I know I speak for myself as well as the others on the team when I say we really appreciate everything that Coach Brian Carter has done for our girl's team and for the Kaufman Soccer Program as a whole.

March 26, 2009

Kaufman Lady Lions Soccer team ended their season Tuesday, March 24th, against their opponent Highland Park. The girls were devastated from the loss and reality really hit them hard as the buzzer sounded and they came to realize that the season was over. For the senior ladies the buzzer sounding was more than just an end to this season. For seniors; Amanda Lehman, Jennifer Reyes, Chelsea Wymer, Meredith Cox, and myself, Shelby McLeod, that sound was the sound of our last game that we all would be playing together. After playing on the same recreation teams since we were only 8 years old and continuing that tradition throughout our high school years, the girls were torn to know that it had all come to be over so quickly. I am proud of all of them for everything we have accomplished throughout the years and with the addition of Chelsea Wymer to the original four of us from the Cheetahs, I know we couldn’t have asked for a better family to share this whole experience with. I love all of my soccer ladies and we will miss you all so much!
